Despite many attempts to introduce federal legislation to control guns in America – like President Obama’s attempt in 2013 after 20 school children were shot in Newton, Connecticut – it is difficult to get Congress to pass such laws. Furthermore, on the federal level, the Supreme Court has recently affirmed the rights of individual Americans to “have and bear arms.”
Therefore most gun laws are found on the state level, with different states having very different laws. In the feature article "Kill Zone" we learn about gun laws and some of their consequences in New York City.
